So you'll need:

A foldable workbench with adjustable vice grips.

Screwdrivers, a good set preferably (Philips and flat) with good grips and long shafts. Insulated just in case you touch something live by mistake doing electrical wiring and a godsend is having screwdrivers that are magnetised as dropping screws in a tight spot is a horror without a magnetic shaft to pick them up with.

Adjustable spanner or wrench will cover most size nuts; preferably get one from 0 to at least 20mm

Hammer, will help on most task when all fails... Only joking. One with a claw helps to get the bent nails out and maybe a lump hammer for use with stone chisels.

Soft Mallet, for when you want to hit something and it won't leave a mark; although you can get away with a piece of scrap wood over the top and then use a hammer... Lightly.

Stanley/craft knife, with spare sharp blades, or a wire cutter if you are no good with a knife.

Pliers, sometimes two are needed so a pair of long nose pinchers as well as proper ones.

Spirit Level, for getting things straight and level. A short one will do if you have a long straight piece of wood to put it on.

Steel Measuring Tape, the longer the better.

Hacksaw, for cutting smaller items.

Hard point handsaw, for cutting wood.

Mastic Gun, for use with sealers and adhesives.

Bradawl, for production starter holes in wood for screws although a hammer and nail is just as good.
Chisels, for working with wood, especially hanging doors and a cold chisel and a bolster for working with stone or bricks.

Mole Grips, to keep things clamped while you have your hands free for other things.

File, a round one, but most jobs can be sorted with capability sandpaper.

Pipe cutters, one of the best inventions for copper pipe cutting in tight spaces without having to use a hacksaw. One 15mm and one 22 mm will cover you.

Set square, used for marking at right angles and production your cuts straight.

Straight edge for marking, whether it be a length of wood or a metal ruler.

Electrical drill, with a selection of drill bits to make holes... You can't do without one.

Safety glasses, for protecting your eyes.

Torch, one tool that is invaluable is a torch especially in dark angle or when you have to do wiring repairs with the electricity switched off. The only thing is keeping it in the right position whilst you have your hands free to do the work. An item which is now on the shop is the eyeglass light, it's small, powerful, lightweight and clamps onto your glasses leaving your hands free, it has along flexible arm to direct the Led light to where you want it where you are looking if it's clamped to your glasses. Regularly used as a reading light, I could of used with this many a time in my tool kit.
